Over 100 volunteers give up their time willingly and cheerfully to help in the running of RDA each week. Each branch is run by a sub- committee of volunteers. Headed by a qualified instructor, they are responsible for the in- house organisation and co-ordination of their own branch. The session's instructor keeps a profile of each rider, and these are reviewed and updated after each session amongst the working volunteers, and as the need arises with physiotherapist and occupational therapist for medical input and advice.
The sessions are held most weekday mornings, the children coming from a variety of special schools and day care centres.
All volunteers receive a basic training and those who wish to strengthen their knowledge can enter the training scheme for levels 1,2 and 3, with separate qualifications in horse management, lunging riding and coaching.
All training and assessment courses are carried out by an internationally certified RDA coach/ examiner – are to an internationally accepted level. First Aid qualifications can be arranged and log books and training material is provided.
All our centres are in need of more volunteers, so if you think you could spare a few hours a week to give one of our groups some much needed help, please click on the pictures opposite for contact details of one of the centre nearest you.
You don’t need to have any experience with horses to contribute - just a compassionate and charitable heart.
